Famed author Candace Fleming captured the attention of the Van Holten students and staff

Award-winning author Candace Fleming can present as well as she can write.

Ms. Fleming is the author of more than 20 books—fiction and non-fiction—and has achieved awards for her biographies, picture books, middle grade novels, and teen novels for young readers.

When she paid a call to the Van Holten Primary School on Wednesday, March 27, she captured the attention of her audience with her works and crafts.

One admirer in the audience was Van Holten Principal George Rauh.

“Her presentations captivated the students as she shared the process of creating a book from “story seeds”,” Principal Rauh said. “ Mrs. Fleming elaborated on the entire writing process in using these “story seeds” to create a published book.”

He reported that students saw this process in action as Mrs. Fleming shared from start to finish the creation of her published books  Muncha!  Muncha!  Muncha! and Clever Jack Takes the Cake.

"Ms. Fleming’s enthusiasm and excitement for writing engaged our children.  Her presentation showed them that they could use their own “story seeds” to be writers and some day publish their own book(s),” Principal Rauh said. “What a wonderful experience for our students to learn about writing and believe one day they could be a famous writer like Mrs. Fleming.
