Squeeze a balloon and relieve stress so said the Van Holten students

Simple ingredients can relieve stress.

That was the mission performed by the Van Holten Primary School students during their participation in Mental Health Awareness Month.

Staci Aguanno, Van Holten’s School Counselor and the spearhead behind a month of Mental Health Awareness Month activities, directed students on the school’s playground on Wednesday, May 15, about the process of making stress balls.

She demonstrated what the students then followed when she combined water and cornstarch and poured both through a funnel and into a balloon.

The students then played with the balloons in their hands until the substances thickened.

Thus a ball that you squeeze to relieve stress.

“It is a community activity and this is a relief of stress,’’ Ms. Aquanno said.

The Mental Health Awareness Month at Van Holten features various sessions that include Laughter Yoga (May 8, 16, and 29) and a Therapy Dog visit (May 30).
