Another season of the Somerset County Academic League has begun, signaling another season for Bridgewater-Raritan High School to contend once again to win the championship.

Bridgewater-Raritan’s varsity team has started off with a 2-0 record in the 2025-2026 Somerset County Academic League season.

Bridgewater-Raritan High School served as the venue for week two when the host team defeated Rutgers Preparatory School, 266-145, on Thursday, December 11.

The Bridgewater-Raritan JV was defeated by Rutgers Prep, 192.5-122.5, to even its record to 1-1.

Bridgewater-Raritan launched the 2025-2026 season on Thursday, December 4, when the varsity and JV teams swept past Somerville High School at Hillsborough High School.

The competition in the Academic League is divided into two parts, each consisting of a trivia-type game with 14 categories. Students are asked the questions by their school’s team advisor and coaches. The questions cover a wide range of subjects, including literature, sports, entertainment, science, history, the arts, and government. Each of the 10 high schools that compete in Somerset County serves as a host for one of the weekly competitions during the winter season

Bridgewater-Raritan, which is guided by its Advisor, Dr. Eleni Arapaki, who is an AP Physics 1 and 2 teacher at the high school, met its requirement to serve as a host once a season when it held the competition on campus at the 1000 building on December 11.

This winter, Bridgewater-Raritan will once again be among the leading contenders to win the Somerset County title.

Bridgewater-Raritan was crowned the 2023-2024 Somerset County Academic League champion, a title it shared with Montgomery High School, as both schools finished with an 8-1 record.

Bridgewater-Raritan placed third last season with a 7-2 record.
