Théa Tettekpoe, who is graduating from Bridgewater-Raritan High School on Thursday, June 18, has a bright future ahead of her following her elite accomplishment.
Théa has successfully passed the French Baccalauréat, one of France's most demanding national academic qualifications. By completing both programs simultaneously, she has earned dual credentials that reflect years of dedication, discipline, and perseverance.
That result, in a way, serves as a passport for her when she plans her future studies and work in Europe.
“I was so thrilled that I passed the Baccalauréat because that opens the door for me,” Théa revealed. “I need to pass in order for me to work and study in Europe. I want to go to grad school there.”
For now, her immediate plans are to study in the United States.
Théa will attend American University in Washington, D.C., where she will major in International Relations within the School of International Service.
Maria Kostis, a French Teacher at Bridgewater-Raritan High School and a mentor to Théa since her arrival from France in 2022, said that “her choice of study in college reflects her global perspective and passion for understanding the connections between cultures, countries, and people.”
Ms. Kostis reflected on her young student’s career and how well she had adapted.
“When Théa arrived from France as a freshman at Bridgewater-Raritan High School, she faced a challenge that few students experience: adapting to a new country, a new school system, and a new language environment while continuing to pursue the rigorous academic requirements of the French educational system,” Ms. Kostis stated.
She added:
“From the moment I met Thea as a freshman in my AP French class, I knew she was destined to excel in all she does. It’s not easy to move to a new country and get used to a new school where classes are taught in a new language. Thea quickly made friends and took advantage of every opportunity inside and outside of the classroom here at the high school.”
“Four years later, Théa has achieved something remarkable”
Ms. Kostis explained the dedication that Théa had to employ.
“The French Baccalauréat, commonly known as the '”French Bac," is a comprehensive examination that requires extensive preparation and mastery across multiple subjects. While balancing the demands of American high school coursework, extracurricular activities, and the challenges of adapting to a new culture, Théa remained committed to preparing for the French examinations, often managing two educational pathways at once.”
“ I am so proud of her. She took advanced classes at Bridgewater-Raritan High School while studying every night for her classes in France,” Ms. Kostis said. “Her success story serves as an inspiring example of what can be accomplished through hard work, determination, and the support of a caring school community. Théa's journey from France to Bridgewater-Raritan High School demonstrates the power of embracing new opportunities while staying committed to one's goals.”
Théa concluded:
“Passing this test was an achievement that I wanted to do all of my life.”
