The Bridgewater-Raritan High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams

The Bridgewater-Raritan High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams were very busy in their first major meet of the spring sports season

To highlight a nearly six-hour day at the Skyland Conference Relay Championships, which saw the Bridgewater-Raritan boys’ and girls’ squads combine for six top-three medals and 10 more top-six scoring placements, senior Lukas Disko cruised to a gold medal (4:28.36) by nearly four seconds in the boys’ 1600-meter run.

As teams, the Bridgewater-Raritan boys tied with host Franklin High School for sixth place (40 points), while the Bridgewater-Raritan girls’ team delivered a seventh-place finish (33 points) Saturday, March 29, at Franklin High School in Somerset.

The Panthers’ two other boys’ medalists were the 4x100 relay team (third place, 44.45 seconds) along with senior Shaun Nelson, who earned a bronze medal in the discus throw (129-8 mark). On the girls’ side, the following three Bridgewater-Raritan squads or individuals ended the day as medalists: the 4x800 relay team (third place, 10:18.26), sophomore Meera Buddhikot(long jump, third place, 15-11.75 mark), and senior Emily Leppert (discus, third place, 102-3 mark).

Also contributing to the Bridgewater-Raritan boys’ team scoring were the following five results: the 4x800 relay team (fourth place, 9:00.63), distance medley relay team (fourth place, 11:45.23), 4x400 relay team (sixth place, 3:40.91), sprint medley relay team (sixth place, 4:02.82), and sophomore Jordan Estomata, who threw a mark of 118-2 in the discus.

Five more results for the Bridgewater-Raritan girls’ team rounded off the day’s scoring as follows: the 4x100 relay team (fifth place, 51.43 seconds), 4x200 relay team (sixth place, 1:59.25), and 4x400 relay team (fourth place, 4:19.38), while fourth-place individual finishes were delivered by both senior Tynisa Medallon in the long jump (15-10.75 mark) and senior Madison Delia in the discus throw (101-3 mark).

Montgomery High School (78 points), Hillsborough High School (77 points), and Ridge High School (75 points) all ended the meet within just three points of each other for first, second, and third place overall, respectively, in the large school boys' division.

.On the girls’ side, Hillsborough (102 points) tallied a 14-point margin of victory for the Skyland Conference Relay Championships crown above runner-up Ridge (88 points) and third-place North Hunterdon Regional High School (86 points) in he large school division.

In the small-school group, Somerville High School swept both the boys’ and girls’ titles with 105 points and 112 points, respectively. Amongst these boys’ squads, Warren Hills Regional High School (83 points) and Bernards High School (64 points) finished second and third place, respectively, while the girls’ teams of Voorhees High School (67 points) and Warren Hills (62 points) took home silver and bronze medals.

Next up for the Bridgewater-Raritan High School boys’ and girls’ track and field squads will be Senior Day in a home-tri meet consisting of the Panthers, Manville High School, and Watchung Hills Regional High School starting at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, at John Basilone Memorial Field in Bridgewater.

The Panthers will then compete at the Somerset County Relay Championships starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at Ridge High School.
