There is optimism in the air inside Bridgewater-Raritan High School’s Vaughn Stapleton Gymnasium.
While the Bridgewater-Raritan High School girls’ basketball players were practicing their shots in the background on the court, the team’s coach, Xavier Brooks, and one of the squad’s most experienced and talented players, Briana Cacchio, shared their positive attitudes.
“I am very excited, yes, I say that every year, but this team has the most depth I have had in my four years here,” revealed Coach Brooks during a recent afternoon practice.”We can play up to 10 girls at a high level.”
Caccho, senior guard who averaged 5 0 points a game last season, also spoke about the expectations this winter.
“We are excited. We have been working hard to build on each other,” Cacchio said. “We have a very talented team.”
While Cacchio will provide senior leadership along with her skills, two sophomores are expected to be the go-to players for Coach Brooks.
Amanda Ciser, a guard, made an impact during her freshman season, averaging 10 points per game.
She will be remembered for her buzzer-beater jump shot from the corner of Vaughn Stapleton Gym’s court one winter night last season, when her winning shot lifted Bridgewater-Raritan past Delaware Valley Regional High School.
Her classmate and fellow guard, Samantha Tremarco, will also be counted on to put in points.
“We will be looking to them a lot,” Coach Brooks said.
Cacchio declared that the team goal is to win “15 games,” improving on last year’s 10-15 finish.
Bridgewater-Raritan can begin chipping away at 15 victories when it opens the 2025-2026 season on its home court against the Pingry School on Tuesday, December 16. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
