Tom Turkey was honored by a group of students at the Hamilton Primary School.
Amy MacMath’s 2nd-grade class decided that the traditional food served at each Thanksgiving should be spared.
Ms.MacMath explained the mission of these sympathetic students.
“After reading the story, 'Turkey Trouble,' the class has been campaigning all month long to save the turkeys. The students have learned about slogans and came up with some to persuade people to choose other options this Thanksgiving,” Ms. MacMath revealed. “They disguised turkeys to help them avoid ending up on the Thanksgiving table, and they wrote opinion papers to convince others to join their crusade.”
Then, these creative students took to the stage at Hamilton on the morning of Monday, November 24 to perform their Thanksgiving Festival.
“The culminating activity was a recital of Thanksgiving songs and poems that they performed for their families. While their campaign was all in fun, it was a wonderful learning opportunity,’ Ms. MacMath said.
The students, to the delight of the audience, sang songs and read a poem to honor Tom Turkey.
