A holiday celebration that started in 2012 has snowballed into one of the most anticipated events of the year at the Van Holten Primary School.
The annual Snowball Dance was held again on Wednesday, December 18, at Van Holten’s gym, which was turned into a festive holiday dance hall.
Students participated–and danced to the music and enjoyed the atmosphere– with their classmates in the five grade sessions, all under the direction of Jim Schmale, the dedicated and energetic Van Holten Physical Education Teacher.
“When I came to Van Holten from Milltown (Primary School) in 2012 I told them I had a dance to offer,” Mr. Schmale recalled in between the Snowball Dance sessions. “They told me “we don't dance here.’ “ Well, I said we will throw a party and have a dance.”
The rest is history.
“The kids ask me in September when school starts about the Snow Ball Dance and when we will hold it,” Mr. Schmale said.
Invitations to parents to attend over the recent years have increased the popularity even more.
“It is now a very big day,’ concluded Mr. Schmale, who was just named the Governor's Educator of the Year Award winner at Van Holten.
